Guernsey Swimming Club Bay Swim Series Back for 2018

The Guernsey Swimming Club’s annual bay swim series, sponsored by Louvre Group, opened on Sunday 24th June with the Pembroke to L’Ancresse event.

The club, which commemorated its 130th-anniversary last year, is celebrated for its long tradition of open-water swimming and this popular series continues to attract large numbers of club members of every age and ability.

This year’s timetable of seven swims has seen a change in the original schedule with the first two swims having been postponed due to poor swimming conditions. The new dates of the swims are to be confirmed.

As with other years, the swim series will finish with the Open Castle Charity Swim.

Guernsey Swimming Club director Jo Norman said: ‘These swims are a significant part of the history of the club and it is great to see so many of our club swimmers taking part.

‘The Guernsey Swimming Club would like to thank Louvre Group for their continued sponsorship. We also rely on watercraft support and as the number of swimmers has increased, so has our need for support kayakers and boats, we’re very grateful to all the volunteers that give their time to help keep the swimmers safe.

Haidée Stephens, Managing Director of Louvre Trust (Guernsey) Ltd, said: ‘This is the third year that Louvre Group has supported the Guernsey Swimming Club’s summer series of bay swims and it’s great to see the number of swimmers increasing year-on-year. We’re hoping that the weather will be kind to the swimmers and this year’s series will be the best yet.’
